OPTICAL SHOP
OPTIWOW specializes in glasses for children and young adults. We have our Licensed Pediatric Optician that has over 17 years of experience dedicated to fitting eyeglasses for children, and know how challenging it is to fit an infant, a child a teenager or an adult.
Very often, young patients come into our office with poorly fitted frames. When a frame doesn’t fit well on a child either because it’s too big or too small for their face they often do not get the therapeutic benefits as the glasses are not only to see better but to maintain alignment and avoid amblyopia (lazy eye). Often when a child refuses to wear their glasses it is an indication that there is an issue of comfort and fit, and has nothing to do with the power of the lens.
Our Licensed Pediatric Optician will help you decide what frame best suits your child’s face as well as help you in determining the best lenses for their specific vision needs.

When choosing a frame for your child we will be on hand to offer expert advice. As well as ensuring the frame fits their face perfectly, and that it complements their factions, self-esteem is very important. The child should feel comfortable with what he is going to be wearing. This is why it is important for your child to feel involved in the selection process if they like their glasses they will be happy wearing them.
These days’ children are more fashion conscious than ever, which is why we have the latest frame styles and designer names available.
HOW WILL I EVER GET MY CHILD TO WEAR GLASSES?
That is a question most parents ask, especially when their child is a toddler. The best answer is that most young children really need them will wear their glasses without a problem (happily) because they do see a difference in their vision. Initially, some children may show some resistance in wearing their glasses, but it is necessary for parents to demonstrate a positive attitude. Toddlers often may wear the glasses only when they are in a good mood and reject them (and everything else) when they are not. Getting the proper frame fit by a Licensed Optician with experience in pediatric eyewear is of most importance. The frame should be very comfortable.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT LENSES?
Polycarbonate (strongest and safest material available)
The polycarbonate material was developed by the aerospace industry for use in helmet visors worn by Apollo astronauts. These are lighter in weight and more impact resistant than glass or plastic lenses. They’re always the right choice for children’s eyewear. They include a scratch-resistant coating and ultraviolet light protection Chances are your children won’t be able to break such strong lenses.
Aspheric Polycarbonate Lenses
These types of lenses are made with flatter curves than conventional lenses. Aspheric lenses have a slimmer profile for virtually all types of prescriptions but the difference is especially dramatic in lenses that correct high amounts of farsightedness high plus (+) prescriptions giving them a slimmer, lighter and more attractive profile, helping decrease aberration that distort the quality of vision. It also makes it easier for kids with very high prescriptions to wear a larger selection of frames without worry of the lenses being too thick. These lenses are polycarbonate offering UVA and UVB protection and scratch resistant coating.
Ultra-Thin Polycarbonate Lenses
These types of lenses are made with flatter curves than conventional lenses. Ultra-thin lenses have a slimmer profile for virtually all types of prescriptions but the difference is especially dramatic in lenses that correct high amounts of nearsightedness high minus(-) prescriptions giving them a slimmer, lighter and more attractive profile, helping decrease aberration that distort the quality of vision. It also makes it easier for kids with very high prescriptions to wear a larger selection of frames without worry of the lenses being too thick. These lenses are polycarbonate offering UVA and UVB protection and scratch resistant coating.
Single Vision
This type of lens is used to correct only for distance or near. Single vision lenses have the same focal power throughout (top to bottom) and can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or a combination of these. Most people who wear glasses before the age of 40 have single vision lenses.
Photochromatic Lenses (Transition Lenses)
These popular lenses go from virtually clear indoors to darkly tinted in the bright sunlight. The brighter the sun, the darker the lens will become. Transition Lenses have 100% UV protection and are scratch resistant. Transition Lenses are also available in Polycarbonate material.
Anti Reflective Lenses
We offer premium coatings to reduce glare and reflections that cause eye fatigue. They are also scratch resistant. These coatings actually sharpen your vision, increasing the visual acuity. They are essential for those who do a lot of driving or computer work. What’s more, since the lenses appear to be almost invisible, people see your eyes, not your lenses.
Progressive Lenses
It’s a type of multifocal lens without a line that diminishes image jump and gives a better appearance, they provide a seamless progression of many lens powers for all viewing distances. this type of lens is not useful in treating strabismus cases before teenage years. Varilux Lenses are among the finest in the world. Pediatric Plus Optical is proud to offer their complete line Bifocal Lenses.
Bifocal Lenses
These lenses have two parts, the upper part which is normally used for distance vision and the lower part used for near vision.
High Bifocal: this type of bifocal is prescribed for certain types of crossed eyes or strabismus. It is important that the line bisects or divides the pupil in half in order to ensure the child is using this section for all near activities.
Polarized Sun Lenses
The best lens under the sun. Polarized lenses reduce glare and are excellent for driving and water sports. They protect 100% from UV rays.
Hi Index Lenses
Additional plastic lens material falls into this category in numbers ranging from 1.56 to 1.74 (the higher the number, the thinner the lens). This material is recommended for very high power prescriptions to minimize the thickness of the lens.
EYEWEAR THAT PROTECTS YOUR CHILD’S EYES
Each year thousands of eye injuries could have been prevented if the victim had been wearing protective eyewear. Eye injuries happen while playing baseball, puttering in your garage, or on the job. Children are especially vulnerable to eye injuries because they don’t know their vision, and possibly a lifetime of healthy vision is at stake.
Sports-related eye injuries are toping 100,000 thousand per year and almost all are preventable by protective eyewear.
IS MORE THAN ONE PAIR REALLY NECESSARY?
When you are dealing with children, it is recommended to have a second pair of glasses to be used in the event the regular pair is broken and is being repaired, your child will still have glasses to wear. In the very young child, it is expected that they will need frequent adjustments and repairs of their glasses.
CARING FOR YOUR CHILD’S GLASSES
Glasses should always be taken off with both hands to stop them bending out of shape.
Don’t put glasses face down on any surface as this may scratch the lenses.
Always keep glasses in their case when not wearing them.
Clean glasses daily for clearer vision.
